Weber 32/36 butterfly / choke issue (warm)

  1. Hey all hopefully the video works.

    I've finally had enough of doing this after any run out in the bus I always have to blip the throttle when it's cooled down a little.

    In the video you can hear the the butterfly or choke shut I guess, after I stopped recording I checked again for safe measure you can hear the bottom butterfly shut.

    I believe this is causing fuel to drip into the engine after shutdown.

    No its not causing petrol to drip. If your fuel feed is OK then it will only feed fuel if you put your foot on the pedal and get the acceleration pump jet. Otherwise it needs air flow to suck fuel out of the float chamber.

    So your fuel metering valve is worn and its also probably contaminating your oil and shortening yout engine life.

    Next. The hang up on the throttle. This is caused by cruel stuff like that big spring there. The too big spring constantly pulls the spindle up against its crummy zinc alloy bearing (hole in carb body) which wears away.

    I redesigned the linkage on my T1 so the throttle cable return spring pulls hard only on the throttle cable, and a lever pushes on the carburettors throttle connection against the carburettors own spring wrapped round the throttle shaft, resulting in a lot less sideways force. But it was too late..

    You will find 3 things.

    One an air leak round the spindle, you will be able to wobble the spindle change the hiss and the engine RPM.

    Two the butterfly has worn a step in the throat of the carburettor which it hangs up on. If that spring or the throttle cable pull in the same direction as the spindle, it pulls the butterfly over to one side where it wears.

    The other thing you get is faster idle anyway as the butterfly starts to leak air with the wear.

    And petrol dripping out of the oval hole.

    On mine I still had to rebush the main spindle which can be done with a good pillar drill, and 6x8x10mm Oilite bushings.
    I also had to smooth out the step using a small half round jewellers file.

  3. That's dude some really got info for me to check out.

    I do have a set of weber 34 ICT's to go on, just need to collect the rest of the parts.


    I will strip this 32/36 down for now and check for any of the things you have mentioned.

  5. Thats the plan, but money is tight and i need to purchase the £400 manifold and linkage set :(
     
  6. So diagnoses is, the carb needs a service.

    Dirty float bowl and carb fuel filter.

    Also worn needle valve. So a service kit and a clean up it should be good to go. [​IMG][​IMG][​IMG]

    I would fit a fuel filter before the fuel pump, somewhere like on a chassis rail outside the engine bay.

    I wouldnt be surprised if the idle jets have some of that black in them too.

    So where is the black sludge from ? Dissolving fuel hoses , bacterial sludge ?
     
  10. My guess it's it's been there a while.

    carb was fitted in 2016 this is first time I've had it apart, before my ownership I believe it had no fuel filter as I remember fitting one in 2017.
