I've a vague recollection of watching the original film years ago and not really "got" the whole bladerunner cult film thing.. but i caught the Mark Kermode review of the new film by accident and he was pretty positive about it, so agreed with a few buddies we'd go and see it. Watched the original film again on sunday night in preparation - the "final cut" version though this time which apparently addresses some of the issues with the earlier versions and updates some of the special effects. That was a big improvement IMO. .. but the new 2049 film - wow. Really blew me away - best film i've watched for some time. Won't put any more here about what goes on in the film as i dont' want to spoil anything, but absolutely recommend this if you're into your films.
I saw it last week. Thoroughly enjoyed it, but I have to say it was a bit too long. I don't think there were any superfluous scenes, just that the scenes themselves were dragged out a little. I think you could easily trim 30 mins off and not lose anything... ....and did anyone spot the VW Bug in it?! P.
