Yep, NZ were just too strong for the Wallabies, and will probably be too good for France next weekend, but I hope France do it anyway, and even if they don't I hope its a good game, not one sided or blighted by controversy.

Have put my toys back in the pram now - Warburton getting a reduced 3 weeks is enough for me to show that they ballsed this one up (I coached for 14 years, played for 17 years before that) and never saw a minimum ban time reduced. They can't withdraw the whole thing as I would imagine there might be some ugly legal wrangling. Whats done is done - be interesting to see if France will prove to be Moriarty to New Zealands Holmes again - but to be honest if they can't beat a team of 14 men for 75% of the game, and nearly get edged at the end, NZ are going to make them hurt.

For much of the late 80's, the 90's and half of the 10's Wales have been poor (more of that later), since around 2003 we've been playing positive rugby, risky, but setting out to score points - on this one I feel utterly robbed. It's a bitter pill to swallow.

I'm happy to discuss league, I've watched it for years and agree with you on many of the positives (I played when a student) - but I played front row in Union so love the technical apsects of scrummaging and lineout etc.

Regarding your article above, as a Welshman, its hard to have a load of sympathy if being honest, and here's why:

Adrian Hadley, Jonathan Davies, Dai Young, Stuart Evans, Paul Moriaty, John Devereux, Scott Quinnell, Phil Ford, Gerald Cordle, Jonathan Griffiths, Robert Ackerman, Allan Bateman, Scott Gibbs, David Bishop, Kevin Ellis, Terry Homes, Mark Jones, Roland Phillips and Richard Webster - that list didn't require much recollection.

All of the above (bar one) were Welsh internationals - many of whom were Lions, all bar 1 were would have formed the team from the late 80's throughtout the 90's. 5 of the starting team from 1987 went to league.

It's not leagues fault that economically all these guys went north - but Wales were denied the cream of the crop for a generation - so am not too sympathetic to be honest - add that to we've only targetted Keiran Cunningham and Anthony Sullivan (I'll kind of include Iestyn Harris) and have Wales benfitted from League? Probably, because some of the guys came back better players for sure - but we'll never know how they might have turned out had they not gone. I'll give you Shaun Edwards though - absolute diamond of a coach - pity his own country couldnt see it!

Fundamentally, Union will never match league for ball in play and tries scored (not unless they ditch the two extra players or make the pitches bigger) - I'd market league as a different sport entirely if it was me!

Great post ;D just one thing, the english rugby union is run by old school buffoons, sean edwards just would'nt fit in would he, not there cup of tea ??? he played both union and league for england at schoolboy level and is a legend

The guys talent and drive are relentless - I'm fairly sure if you told him you can't replace a front panel in less than a day, he'd have it done in an hour.

Do you think the reasons above are why John Bentley was such a misfit with the English guys on the Lions 87 tour (for me, he made the documentary worth watching), and why Ellory Hanley and Joe Lydon haven't progressed further? I was at a coaching conference with Joe Lydon in Loughborough maybe 8 years ago - opened my eyes I can tell you!

The most bizarre thing in rugby to date was playing against Hika the Hooker in a low grade club game - the man was my hero in the 80's and playing against him was brilliant, I didn't know he was playing in England leave alone against us - second most bizarre was watching the great Gary Schofield end his amazing career playing for Aberavon, who were pants back then.

What a gutting result - Wales lost, AND France were rubbish, if they were gonna win could at least have done it in style!

Dont know who to cheer on now, would like the trophy back in the northern hemisphere, but cant help feeling N.Z really deserve it this year.

Well, looks like i missed a whole load of fun on here whilst diy'ing!

What a gutting result - Wales lost, AND France were rubbish, if they were gonna win could at least have done it in style!

Dont know who to cheer on now, would like the trophy back in the northern hemisphere, but cant help feeling N.Z really deserve it this year.

now that england had an early exit, I'm cheering for NZ they have style and lots of talent 8)

Yep, must have been hard to lose by such a close margin again. Roll on the 6 nations, could be interesting (or embarasing being english) if wales are still in form!
