Hi All, Just spotted a reference to the VWT2OC in Volksworld and just wondered if anyone would recommend signing up? If there are more than £30 worth of other benefits it would seem like a good bet!? Andy.
I joined last year, mostly to get a valuation on the van, but also to see what benefits there were from the club (the Vanfest tickets thing was one). In the end, I didn't go to Vanfest, and my attempts at getting the valuations organiser's attention so I could arrange a valuation came to nothing. Emails were ignored, and I got nowhere trying to get some answers out of people from the T2OC at Camperjam last year. So I don't think I'll bother renewing this year, and I'll find another way of getting a valuation.
If you look at the VWT2OC facebook page, it looks like there is a bit of a battle going on between the club committee and the Vanfest committee. There's also been a few issues with trying to get a new website up and running. I am a member, and did get a valuation from the club, but all the in fighting could be a bit off putting if it continues. Seems like the club is going through a bit of a rough patch as I've hear others comment that they could not get hold of people at the club. Shame really cos the few guys n gals I have met from the club seem genuinely nice people.
I joined their forum when i was hunting for a van, no help at all, also i find them a bit anal, take the guy who posts on here occasionally for example (no names)... i got a valuation off here by talking to people who know, the insurance (Peter James) are happy to accept self valuations with pictures upto £15k, I also got a quote off cherished but at the time they were more expensive, they too were happy to take Hailfranks opinion of the price my van was worth for insurance purposes.
I joined before I discovered this place and totally wasted my time and money. You can post a question and wait a week for someone to read it - let alone reply. I never managed to get in touch with the valuations guy - which was the main reason I joined All you get is a magazine full of nothing much. It is not a welcoming place......
Interesting opinions, cheers guys. I wasn't sure having seen the dated website and the few missing posts in their role call. I guess i'll keep an eye on matters and see if they improve! Glad to see they have a FB page, that'll probably be a better way of keeping abreast of developments to see if any benefit really comes to light.
I think the T2OC has had it's day. I've never seen the value of joining it. They seemed like a bunch of caravanners, rather than bus owners. Desperately needs some new blood, I think.
Was going to post something last week, but didnt get around to it. Seem the opinion is much as i thought. When i went on the website and viewed most of the stuff re Vanfest, there is a lot of dirty washing being aired, why in public??? Actually can see both sides of the argument but there is so much back biteing going on in public it is a shame. I was intending to join them as i had heard they were good club (and the Vanfest discount of course), but totally put off with the dirty washing in public.
I have chatted with them several times over the years, largely when they set their wall-paper table up at some show or other. Every time, I come away thinking - 'well I don't much fancy going camping with you'!!! :-
I joined years ago and benfitted from insurance discounts. When that became available by other means I didnt renew for a few years until i wanted the discounts for vanfest. Its not my thing really and I find the club a bit fusty really. Each to their own eh!
