VW race car transporters

Just found these on another site and thought I'd share

 

Very cool. Wouldn't like to hit a bump in the road and have it move slightly sideways on the loadbed.

Any details on what these cars were or anything?

The red/gold car I believe is a lotus 72d, Formula 1 car of the early seventies

The white and green car is a Williams F1 car of the early eighties,mi've never seen them transported like this though )
