  1. IMAG3479.jpg IMAG3473.jpg IMAG3476.jpg Hi all, just had my beloved Bora cat B written off.

I know, in the States, the Bora 2.0 8v engine is a popular conversion in bays so if anybody is interested in engine and box then please shout me.
It has 114k ish on clock and runs brilliantly - just been serviced!!
I will happily wrap and palletise if you can arrange collection - it's near Peterborough.
Do have the rest of car up for grabs aswell if any parts are any good to you guys / girls. It's in reflex silver and the Bora front end is a popular conversion for the mk4 golf.
So many good bits left it would be a very long post to list all bits with prices and photos so please make me an offer in whatever bit you need and I'll consider / accept.
    Apologies to admin for this.
The engine sells for around £300 without box and higher mileage just to give you an idea.
Interior (front and rear seats, door cards and front arm rest) £100 - no bolster wear.
Just so there are a couple of prices on here.
Pics to follow tomorrow when there is sufficient light.
    Bare with me admin .

Firstly, any category of write-off can be put back on the road.
Secondly, pictures and prices please or the ad will be pulled.
You don't need to list and photo every single part but we expect all major parts to be detailed please.
    Cheers

Incorrect - i know i can't just leave it at that so from RAC, document is 4 years old, but can't imagine much has changed as A & B were the same when i was a young lad.

    http://www.rac.co.uk/community/blog/rac-blog/september-2011/what-is-an-insurance-write-off

Category A: scrap only. For cars so badly damaged they should be crushed and never re-appear on the road. Even salvageable parts must be destroyed.

Category B: body shell should be crushed. Signifies extensive damage, although some parts are salvageable. Should never re-appear on road, although reclaimed parts can be used in other road-going vehicles.

Category C: the vehicle is repairable but the costs exceed the vehicle’s value. Can re-appear on road.

Category D: the vehicle is repairable but repair costs are significant compared to the vehicle value – including time delays to source parts. Can re-appear on road.

The ABI Salvage Code dictates that Category A and Category B cars should be crushed, with Cat B vehicles allowed to donate some safe and serviceable parts.

However, write-offs in the latter two categories can be sold on by the insurance company, either to the original owner or to a third party via a car salvage company. Cars written off as a Category C case, according to the ABI’s Salvage Code, “require a Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) before a V5C registration certificate is re-issued by the DVLA.” The VIC is carried out by the Vehicle Operator and Services Agency (VOSA).

As no notifications are made to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) or VOSA when a car is written off in a Category D situation, the vehicle is not subject to a VIC before it is allowed back on the road – just make sure the repair work has been carried out to a safe and satisfactory standard.

  7. Been told off for the possible insulting of any South Americans - the car is a Bora (UK) or Jetta Mk4 for USA - @volkswombat
@Razzyh - the floor is buckled, don't think it will be back to be fair.
@Baysearcher - have put some prices on ad and pics will be taken and uploaded when there is decent light.

You mention the engine and box a few times and tell us what a higher mileage one without the box would sell for. How about a price for yours?

  13. For engine and box I will be asking £300

That seems to suggest the same as what I've written I.e A & B are effectively scrap and should not go back on the road.

Salvage disposers should use best endeavours to ensure that Category A and B vehicles do not reappear on the road.

As I said though it's a code of practice, not a law.
Cat A and B can be put back on the road.
