VW BAY HIGH TOP - advice?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by nzingher, Oct 12, 2012.

  1. Hi there! I'm wanting to take the plunge and get a VW high top bay camper. I've seen a couple but I don't know what I should look for in terms of value for money. I want to convert the van to become a mobile catering van...any suggestions? Happy to show the links to the 2 I'm choosing between. Thanks!

Avoid rust. Everything else is easy to sort.

  3. Put the links up and I'm sure you'll get plenty of opinion. But the best way of judging is by taking someone along with you to view them tat knows a bit about them. These things can be worse than they may first appear.

  4. value - depends on what there like :)

  5. thanks for the quick replies! Here are the links to both:

This one seems in good condition from what the guy said...

This one is hard for me to tell, but the guy took loads of photos, which are spread over 3 pages worth of posts (you'll know what I mean when you click through).

Obviously I'm keen to go for the cheaper, but if the difference in restoration will be more than the difference in price between the two then I'd rather go for the more expensive (if that makes sense?)

Again, really appreciate any thoughts you all have...and looking forward to joining the club!

You need to see them. No way you can tell condition from photos.
    The White one looks lovely!

  7. You need to go and see them yourself but I agree the white one looks ace :)

  8. Plus its been in a dry climate ,the underside looks OK as well - not a bad price ,get them down to under £6 grand

  9. thanks for the tips guys! So do you reckon that if I get the rustier one I'm just asking for higher costs in renovating it? I am thinking of creating a side hatch window as well...

  10. Absolutely mate ,that white one looks really promising.
    I would remove the link!!!

  11. Plus whites a good base colour to put you adverts on ,they will stand out

  12. i like the inside of whitey - looks like a sauna

  13. Right weve even named it for you ,just need you to buy it now

    Thanks again!

  16. Cant see the links. Message em to me if you want as Im not in the market (Struggling to pay for mine TBH).

Where abouts are they. anywhere near me would be happy to have alook for you.

  17. just PM you Dicky :)

  18. Off pat the first one looks pretty good but ive read that write up before and reasonably recently.
    Trying to recall where!

The second - difficult to tell and a long way to go for you. Not that tidy but depends what your budget is for the finished vehicle. Do you want something thats turnkey and off you go or something converted to your speci (whats the business if its not sensitive info)

  19. haha brilliant!

OK so my business will be street food business, based on blended fruits (you could say smoothies). I'd want to convert it to my spec. The owner of the vehicle said he'd happily remove the interior. The intention is to drive this van on a daily basis to a location, park it, serve and drive it back to wherever I'll store it (reading other threads here I should be really careful with it!).

    Thoughts?
