  1. Anyone popping along on Sunday ? I know the show has changed for the worst but still sort of worth a look ;)

  2. Doh, I’m going Saturday. Be interesting to see what the new format is like. Don’t think people have the money to build show cars, so it’s had to do this to fill the venue.

For the first time since we bought the van nerlsy 15 years ago, we’re going to sit this one out. It feels like it’s been in decline for a number of years, and last year it just didn’t feel worth it. Not helped by Schofield saying they weren’t going this year (anyone know why?).

Anyway, if you do go I hope it is back on an upward turn and you enjoy it!

Spotted! Although I still don’t know what you look like haha. And also saw @davidoft from a distance until he disappeared into the crowd!

  8. I saw you for a split second out by the paddock. And apparently you have camped with my mate Dan the Porsche trimmer?!? Small world. He runs the high up transporters thing.

From a distance is the best way to see @davidoft so you did alright!

  15. Free entry thanks to Wolfsburg Bus Crew so what’s not to like.

Saw some folks, checked out some sweet builds inside, and had somewhere convenient for a sit down and a cup of Earl Grey. Traffic wasn’t bad either. I think all the m25 news stories had put some people off travelling.

upload_2024-3-17_16-29-1.jpeg I drove up the M3 in what we call "M3 weather" meaning surface water and spray giving about 100m visibility in the bus. But by the time I had arrived, it had slowed to a drizzle so I joined the entry queue at 0945, they let us in at 0950. This guy was happy on the grass by the racecourse winners enclosure..

The dreaded and much threatened M25 gridlock was not too bad on the way up via a fryup at Fleet Services on the M3, but on the way back my route took me further north of the Thames, at Hampton Court, and the queue going the other way was about 5 miles crawling through the Thames side villages..

I felt that the show has built up a bit since last year, which was pretty dead post COVID. I paid the £32 entry fee and I was glad to be greeted by a 1943 Kafer and a 1958 Westfalia in the foyer.

Around the edges of the halls, the trade stands were the usual suspects, minus Schofields and GSF but plus one or two Classic Porsche specialists showing how to really get money off the punters.

    upload_2024-3-17_16-27-14.jpeg

There were none of the "US Pro" tool merchants selling tools which look quite like the real thing but somehow leave a little to be desired in reality.

I expect they were getting higher fees from the stand holders as well as the punters.

I didnt buy much, mostly coffee and muffin, and two T shirts for £5 because they were damp after all the rain. I did enjoy the live performer singing from his T25 , a pity his audience was so small because of the drizzle .

There seems to have been a fairly large camping contingent down on the grass.

I quite enjoyed the mixing in of not just aircooled but classic Porsche and old watercooled VWs, maybe some shiny cars with proud owners beat lines of slammed patina Early Bays bleeding oil out of their sumps, with hungover owners.

  17. Glad you had a good day Mike , still bonkers paying £32 for the day which is a travesty - double last years entry .
My Yorkshire heritage would forbid me supporting such profiteering but i was busy sorting life `stuff` so never got there despite being within a good bowmans shot of Sandown ...

  18. Glad you got there ok, despite the weather! I went Friday night and camped for the Saturday. I didn’t camp at all last year despite doing more miles in the bus, so hopefully have a few more nights away this year. Will try to get to te if I can.

  19. I camped, and yes - got a tractor tow out (nearly made it!)

We don't do many shows, last one was Dubfreeze at Stafford 6 or so years ago - we arrived late morning Saturday for this one, took our time, then left lunchtime on Sunday - it wasn't worth 2 days IMO. Some nice vehicles on display, JK and VWH didn't carry any parts at all which surprised me, but great stuff from NLA and C+C - auto jumble was OK, but everyone selling pretty much the same stuff. Usual eye-watering food prices, no real show bargains other than 10% from most vendors I think (thank-you, but wasn't enough to prise the wallet I'm afraid) Kids area was a joke!

All in all, it's a no from me - I won't be in a hurry to return I'm afraid.
