You forgot - drive it stupidly fast and scare the presenter. Run out of power after maybe 100 miles, but then again my neighbour with a TR3 thinks that Stonehenge is a long drive in a classic car from Southampton ... With crude installations - battery shutdown at about freezing and about 40C with nothing you can do but wait. If they then install all the heatpumps needed then it will work better, but cost more. Great for a summer outing in tweed cap and driving gloves to the Great Rubber Duck Race at a country pub a few miles up the road. ..
To be fair, they did put new front discs on and new adjustable shocks all round - but then they are putting 110 bhp through the original gearbox.
The simple VW layout (which they’ve replicated on numerous vehicles) is pretty much that. How this is still £45k baffles me! The conclusion that it wasn’t cost effective for a cheap beetle could have saved them a lot of effort from the beginning! Credit where it’s due, the landy, Range Rover installs were a bit more involved and the motorbike they did was obviously different
I have watched a few of these and agree with what others have said about the repetitive nature of the programme. I have to admit being surprised that the vehicles retain their historical status. Such a big change to engine, suspension etc....
I've only seen a couple but decided to draw a line under the programme when they had a beautiful 3 wheel Issetta to convert which had been in the family for 30-odd years, passed on to the son who clearly enjoyed the quirkiness and challenge - even taking it around the block he came back with a huge grin . Budget was a ridiculous 45k for 40 miles of charge and to be honest Mr Smug didn't seem that impressed - in fact downright worried when it was far quicker than the original !!
