VESPAAAAAAA :)

  1. IB is Islas Balears, as you probably know the Balearic Islands, originally all the three island's vehicles had PM for the Palma office, then 4 numerals, then an age related postfix letter. However, this caused some consternation in the other islands and PM became IB some time in the early 90's. But the rest of the sequencing continued. As you know, the same numbering system was used throughout Spain until, what look like to me, more recent non regional plates in the early 2000's. The age postfix of the scoot is all wrong for an IB plate, the ex-FIL had a IB plated car in 90's and it was postfixed "DJ", one of their previous cars was PM plated registered in 84 as postfix "AF", already by then the Palma office had used up A thru Z and were using two letters. The scoot is a single "T" plated, I think, suggesting, as a best guess, mid 70's. I would also suggest it was restored and re-plated from a PM to an IB plate some time more recently.

I am just to take myself for my morning coffee, I'll see if it's there and get some more photos, if it is.

Mid 70s isn't a bad guess. It seems factory numbering is a bit scant but if the engine/chassis numbers are prefixed 9PN then it's a 76 model, 9PK then it's 1981.
Edit, the replating theory is sound as well. When we imported Marge in 2005/6 or there abouts, she wasn't given an age related plate. Just a sequenced current year registration.

Now she's back here, she fortunately was awarded her original P designation DVLA plate which matches the window glass etching.
    Enjoy the coffee...

  3. And Austria apparently.

To the extent that the British traders are often outbid at the Italian parts and sales events, a lot of them only import Lambrettas into the UK now.

My Seat Marbella had an AL plate for Almeria, I thought it would be good to find one that almost said Alex :). But I didn’t.

  5. Thanks, I think I have become addicted to the stuff. The scoot wasn't there :( I'll keep my eyes peeled for it..

    It certainly floated my boat.

Old stencilled Madrid registration on the project Motovespa Sprint from the mid 60s. I think it'll stay if I can legally leave it on there

  14. We seem to have stumbled upon a relatively rare scoot, Mike, it seems it was made for, from what I can tell, the domestic Spanish market due to specific legislation that allowed 16 year olds to ride on their A1 license, so it's small frame size is a bonus they aren't/weren't allowed a pillion until older and more qualified.

The seat on "yours" certainly has better lines than the split seat on "mine" .... but it does look long enough for two, just!

  16. That explains the Ancelotti style seat I bought on a Spanish holiday in the 80's. I fitted it to my Primmy back then, but it was too short to carry a pillion. I did wonder why they'd make one like that.....?

  17. Look at the exhaust pipe on it - I don't think that is still a 75cc scooter.....

  18. The white one, that might explain the price? I still prefer the blue one.

  20. I still haven't seen the blue one again, I looked out for it again on the way for my morning coffee fix. I guess it could be due to holidays, plenty of folk still not in their regular routine.

I shall persevere, it's probably not a good buy anyway, even if it were 'se vende', but it's jolted me into thinking about doing my bike test again this coming 'primavera'.
