  1. Had to take the engine out of the van today, not a happy camper

this is due to my NEW inlet manifold rubber boot splitting after being in for 3 months and about 200 miles...

now ordered the urethane one's which should last longer, ordered express from Heritage who tell me they will be here on monday.. ahhhh express my bum,

Wanted to get it sorted over the weekend.. Not happy...

  2. Why take the engine out? If its a type 1 style engine they can be fitted while its in. Just did mine a few days back. Only 1/2 hours work.

    Did you over-tighten the clips?

Just tight enough and no tighter. Seriously though they'll seal fine with moderate tightening - overdo it and you'll cut through them.

  6. The quality of some of the rubber parts for sale are just laughable. :(
Reminds me a bit of the axle gaitors swing axle bugs use. I was replacing them on a yearly basis until i fitted a urethane set.

Sounds like a crap quality rubber if its cracked after only 3 months (probably due to the heat of the manifold).
Where was it bought from (and what brand) so we can all avoid the same problem?

Anything written in the Haynes manual should be taken with a large pinch of salt. It lies. ::)

  7. name n shame the brand ... ;D

  8. Could it be the amount of ethanol in today's fuel, I was horrified by fuel pipe only lasting a year, and my inlet manifold boots went in a huge way this year.

The evil powers at be, are poisoning our old motors every time we fill up, or is modern rubber made of toffee ?
