  1. Mr Happy seems to have developed a fueling issue on the way down here can anyone recommend a vdub friendly garage near here to check it out before we head to Cornwall?

Never been in there, Don't know if he will be ale to help.

Have a look on google maps you will see the one I mean.

  6. Thanks for the responses. It transpired the guy who owns the campsite runs a garage and up to last year ran a camper hire business, so he agreed to have a look tomorrow. The camper pottered round yesterday OK so decided on a trip to Taunton. BIG mistake!
We got onto the M5 and not only did it cough it stopped.
An hour later an AA contractor recovered us to Bridgewater services to wait for a patrol man. He duly arrived checked filter and bugger me it started no bother so he offered to follow us along the M5 to see if it would do it again which 2 miles later it duly did.
The AA man then proceeded to strip the fuel system on the hard shoulder and eventually discovered the cam in the fuel pump had come loose with pin it pivots on completely missing. This he fixed with a suitable nut and bolt. The look of satisfaction on his face was amazing.
Lots of respect as he could have recovered us again but he was determined not to be beaten!
    So camper health restored.

    Sounds familiar!!

I think it should just be a bar drifted in rather than a nut and bolt. You may want to replace it again

Does anyone have a photo of an og mech fuel pump to compare with?

    Well done on the fix.

  9. Was he a bald mid 40's AA man. If so its my mate he's more off an old school mechanic.

  10. Well he fits that description. He was certainly a credit to the AA

  11. Well my AA repair lasted long enough to get us to St Ives before the nut and bolt fell out fortunately without causing any damage. So I ordered a new pump from vw heritage and in the meantime we pottered around locally with a full tank of fuel so the old one didn't have to work too hard. It arrived today and a local garage fitted it this afternoon as I didn't have the required tools.
Pics on the blog with a general update of the holiday so far.
