VDO fuel Sender

  1. Has anybody fitted a VDO fuel sender (Part Number: J11553) to their bay? I'm just researching as I've no working fuel gauge and due to my van having some "odd" mods I can't work out why so I'm wanting to fit my own system.

Reason I ask is, in the item description from JustKampers it says that fabrication and welding will need to be done to fit it to fuel tank.

Anybody know what needs doing and have photos of it?

    Cheers!

  2. some people fit a flap above the fuel tank to allow them to access it without removing engine and fuel tank. Not a problem if you already have it out already.

  3. My engine is out (and in a million buggered pieces) already so I was going to fix the fuel gauge issue and check fuel pipes while I'm there. I'm guessing its a different fit onto the tank then a standard fuel sender.

  4. That doesn't look like the one for your bus. What year is it?

There are several types of VDO sender: coolair, machine7, etc will sell you one.

  5. Would part J10191 not be better for you?

  6. Yeah I've seen them, but that one is recommended to fit the VDO fuel gauge and I want that as it'll match my oil temperature and pressure gauges. Would a VDO fuel gauge work with that direct fitting J10191 sender?

for the hassle in fitting the vdo you could get the original working its rather simple
    wire from sensor to earth
    wire from sensor to gauge
gauge to voltage regulator on rear of dash
    Live supply to voltage regulator

    check for voltage on gauge
short out sensor and the gauge should move

  8. Mine van only has an old Beetle speedo gauge so its a little different.
