Alright guys - my FI system which has been the bane of my life in my type 4 has been thoroughly investigated along the proper lines. All wiring has been replaced as there were breaks everywhere, the double relay has been changed at a bit of expense. All sparks are good etc, fuel pump works and it has come down to the fact that the valves on the system are shafted and we can't find any spares (do they exist, apart in an ever dwindling stock of not-made-any-more second hand bits?). I'm due to go on a round Britain trip for charity on Friday and am going to have to switch to carbs, at least temporarily, otherwise the whole thing is off. So...I've a few questions. Bear in mind my main aim is reliability and maximising the limited fuel economy, though a bit of pull would be nice too, but as an extra, not the main thing: 1) Single v Dual. What you reckon? 2) Best make - I'm happy to pay a bit, but not going for rolls royce-esque! Can you say why, given my above requirements? 3) Ideas of cost? 4) Don't suppose anyone has any good second hand bits in the Milton Keynes area that I could go for? 5) Any last minute ideas on saving the FI system? As a matter of pressure - I need to make the call by 14:30 today! Move swiftly O genii of Late Bay! Cheers Rob
jeez! tight timescale.... i know of a couple of peeps who have gone from fuel inj to carbs due to problems, birdy and vinnyboy, you'll be lucky if they show up in time, give cool air a call big rich sells the kit to convert and i know he sold the kit to birdy and also morkc68 who is gonna be going over soon.... i myself often wonder what i'm gonna do if mine plays up, i must try to get some spares.... good luck.
I have a spare engine with a pair of original Webber 36 carbs and manifolds on it I am thinking of getting rid of. I already have a pair on my existing engine which I could swap over in the event of disaster.

Cheers Baysearcher! bigrich - it says you need a 009 or 050 distributor, but I want to keep my vacuum advance? Is this possible?
