Ah okay. Mine isn’t riveted though, it’s got big ol’ nuts and bolts!

This is how I done mine
    1. Prop each end with wood cut to hight.
    2. Ratchet to take up the slack with hooks around each end.
    3. Remove the screws I worked from one end towards the centre to check if the spring was still under tension.
    4. I released the ratchets and undone the the grub screw there was still a bit of tension but not much.[IMG]

We did mine one strut at a time in the end, using wood to prop up the end that was being removed and replaced.

    Has it improved it?
Mine was greatly improved and I found I could pull down each side front rear left or right so the solar tilted towards the sun and with the uprated springs it held up great.

Unfortunately mine wasn’t as straight forward in the end.
I’m not sure why or how, but the springs I bought (2nd hand, not directly from JK) were either too long or too thick a gauge. Frustratingly we didn’t discover this issue until all four springs were installed and we gave the roof a test. It wouldn’t close. At full compressing, the springs were still too long.
    It’s a bit of a mystery.
Having got a reply from JK as to the length of their uprated springs, they are another 20mm longer than the ones we unsuccessfully installed… so I can only assume they are a finer gauge of metal, allowing the spring to compress enough.
In the end, after much head scratching, we reinstalled the older springs- but placed a 20mm spacer at the far end inside each strut, effectively lengthening my existing springs by 2cm.
Thankfully this was enough to give my old springs the oomph required to raise the roof with a nice ‘pop’ and hold the canvas sides nice and flat.
I’m not sure if a ‘bodge’ like this would be enough to carry the weight of a JK roof cap (probably not) but it was enough for my two solar panels.

Ah good thinking to put an insert in.
Here's a pic of my uprated springs from JK compared to the old ones.[IMG]

That’s really interesting…. The length difference between my originals and the ones I acquired was way more than that. And as said, the JK ones were 20mm longer still.
Must be down to the thickness of the wire and the openness of the spring. Interesting.
Glad mine works now (even if it was a bit of a bodge) and I don’t have to ponder any further!!

Put an uprated pair in when I fitted the JK Devon Cap. Only just about strong enough but they keep the roof up.
