I've had a quote to get this cushion upholstered to match my r&r bed Pic of the r&r The quote I got was for faux leather , the guy quoted £80 materials & £160 labour bringing the grand total for one 1.0 x 0.5m cushion to £240. I know ribbed effect is more expensive but this does seem a bit steep to me ?!?! opinions welcome
A tad dear tuck n roll like that is a bit time consuming, but £160 / £200 from my experience all in .
200 even seems steep to me , but haven't made any comparisons with price yet. I think for this kinda money il hold off & live with my current setup for a bit
On one hand, its a fair labour fee if someone has to use their time served skills and experience - BUT as a tradesman myself, if I charge too much, long term I will never get any repeat business. I thought the last two garages that did my welding on my bays were horrifically expensive so now i am going to learn to weld and Do It Myself. vs the cost of a good welder to buy I ask .................. is it worth it.? Hmmmmmmm I would say £20 per hour x 8 is a reasonable price for a good tradesman. - What is their work like? Ask how long they would expect it to last? Things I always consider: How long have they been established? Do they have a workshop/stores or work from space? How many staff do they employ - how long have those staff worked at the place? Low turnover of staff is a great sign of a good company and also the staff that carry the work out! Good luck. I have all this to look forward to when I get a bit further along
Fair comment finch , I run my own business too so do understand the value of a good tradesman.. Just didn't think one cushion wold be so much . God knows what a full interior would be perish the thought
Im not a buisness as such However if i do work for people i vary between a flat rate for quick fixes thats normally get me some beers A patch or two for an mot and a quick adjustment of a few things £20 per hour Delving deeper and more complex fault finding stuff or proper cutting out and welding £40 an hour Im ok though as im so far up north im near no one so theres not much work about and if i factor in fuel cost and somthing to feed me during the day no one would use me
The £80 materials seems high for that, but he might have to by a part roll and retain some in stock etc. £160 labour may be a tad high, I've had quotes of £150 - £250 for a front seat which is more intricate.
I'm with Mr Finch. A days work plus materials. If you consider that the material needs to be cut, the flutes stitched, the piping done and then assembled I doubt it would take less than a day. Does the £80 include the foam ? Perhaps you could source the materials yourself ? Is the cushion the same material top and bottom ? You could reduce the cost by having a bland material underneath. If the cushion measures 50cm deep and you only do the top and sides you will need at least 1m of material. A leather type material from woolies cost £24 per metre, then the piping, then the foam, and something for the bottom. Maybe you could reduce the cost by £30 ish if you source yourself ? But if the cost is for the bottom as well, then you would need 2m so already you are at £48 for the material. Good luck
That does sound a bit on the steep side to me too. Give this place a ring 0115 837 0619 Ask to speak to Andy, tell him Austin told you to give him a ring and he will give you a superb price. I don't work there, I'm nothing to do with his business, I am just a happy customer, who keeps going back, his work is very good as are his rates.
