A Met Office forecaster told Yahoo! News that from Sunday there is a risk of snow over the higher ground of Scotland and northern England as unseasonable temperatures take a tumble.

There will also be a chance of wintry showers in the South East on Tuesday.

On Saturday, widespread temperatures will range between 4-8°C before dropping off on Sunday, with a minimum of 1°C in the North and 4°C in the South.

News of the marked change in weather comes only a week after “T-shirt Thursday” where a top temperature of nearly 19°C was recorded in Coleshill, near Birmingham – the highest since 1880.

On Tuesday, the mercury rose to a balmy 17.4°C in Durham, North East England.

As temperatures dip to freezing on Tuesday night, most places will see a touch of ground frost, said forecaster Dan Williams.

He continued: “Exceptionally mild conditions were caused by warm air from the tropics and South Atlantic. But, the wind is expected to change direction bringing in colder air from the North and West and changeable conditions.”
