I am finally getting round to doing the valve guides on my 1700 type 4. (W code car engine)

All the suppliers list 8mm ID for the inlets, and either don't list exhaust, or they are 9mm. I'm pretty sure my heads are 8mm inlet and exhaust..

Soo... how do folks get round this? Do you just use 8mm inlet and 9mm exhaust? Does it make any difference? Or are 8mm exhausts available somewhere please?

    :)

  2. No pretty sure it's 8 and 9... unless 1700's were different

    Ah, thanks chaps. :)

Perhaps I should have took the heads off and looked before worrying...

  5. You buy adapter guides to make them 8mm but I don't know why you'd bother..

If 8 and 9 is the norm, that's what they will remain!

  7. Not sure if they were a standard fitting, but I’ve seen both 8 and 9mm stems on type 1 heads. Just replace like for like.
