  1. Ive just been reading through Joker's excellent post regarding type 4 cooling:

Can I get some clarity - in the photo where you can see the thermostat has any tin ware been removed? I was under the impression that there should be tin covering the thermostat so it was in the airflow circulating round the engine?

  2. there should be the flat bottom most tins fitted , but none covering the stat

  3. Not sure what the previous poster means but normally you cannot see the stat if all the tinware is present on a type 4 there are undertins closing this area off on both sides!

I couldn't put them in the post as I can't fit them, I have j tubes. They ensure the expelled air gets channelled to the back of the bus. They fit between the engine case and heat exchanger. They usually rust away. This is the pair which came on my swamp engine, it had leaked so much oil they were protected. I also have a lovely set in original paint which are like new off a Cali bus. Rarer than Vatican endorsed condoms

  5. So what you're telling me is you have a spare set going really cheap? :)

  8. I have 5 vans right now,

Thats just plain greedy! You could just keep one as a show piece and so therefore it won't mind missing a couple of bits of tin ware!

  10. I stupidly fitted my spares on a T25 I had and then broke it and flogged the engine forgetting to take em off
