  1. Thought I'd look out some spare points condenser etc, looked on Cool air and vw heritage, but can't find anything for type 4 engine. Not sure what engine I've got 1800 or 2000, are the points etc, the same?Where do you get yours from?

Depending on which distributor you have but I bought the 1600 points from one of the usual suspects for my 2ltr type 4.

  3. STD vacuum Bosch one.

  4. Think I bought mine from Just Kampers but have now gone over to Pertronix electronic ignition.

  5. From 1971 points & condensers where pretty much standard across the range, points are 311 998 063, just the length of the condenser lead was different but 021 905 295 or 256A are the usual fits.

  6. Why?

  7. The Stock DVDA dizzy on the Type 4 and T25 aircooled is pretty solid Have been told they last forever as the electronic bits are outside the dizzy on their own heatsink and therefore get kept nice and cool.

Not sure about forever but they are a solid unit. Had to replace the vac can on mine and good to go.

  10. internal earth wire on my dizzy is looking a little frayed.. are they the same as t25 then?

  11. what I meant was, ....was the OE system giving you troubles, or was it bought on a whim? I've got a 1970's /80's Sparkrite, piggy back electronic system and seems to work a treat, with an electronic / std switch

  12. How do you know if the vac advance is working? If you remove the dizzy, and the vac pipe from manifold end, and suck, will / should you see the plate move at all? Or is that too simple

Or don't remove it and give the vac pipe a suck while the engine is running, the timing marks should move as you suck.
