Type 4 Heating Question

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Fil6, Feb 24, 2016.

  1. I am looking to sort out the heating on my 1978 2.0 inj bus.

For some reason the PO removed the Heater Pods between the Heater Tube and the Heat Riser Elbow. Why would they have done this? Fuel/oil smell into cab?

I have resolved the Fuel smell (breather pipes) and sorting out the oil leaks.

I have the original heater pods, but how do I know if they are functioning still, before I refit them?

Also, I have a snail fan, but not connected to the right side Heat Exchanger. how is this normally operated? dashswitch? heater levers?

    ta very much

If you've got the original wiring on the fan the right heater lever operates it when in the fully down position by completing the earth circuit from the relay,
The pods just need the flap to be operating not rusted solid!

...and if your pods are rusted solid or full of holes they're easily availiable new.

  4. Thanks, I will dig them out and give them a good clean up.

If your heater cables aren't working from the dashboard you can, as a temporary fix, (up to ten years) use cable ties or wire to hold the heater pods open or closed.
