Type 4 heater bellows

  1. Hi all, sorry .. me again!
My type 4 1700 is virtually ready to go back in, but fighting me every step of the way!
Thought it was finished, nut then noticed that the bellows cable is frayed at the end. Its down to one strand of wire, so need to replace it.
    Never done this before.
Can you replace just the cable, or do you have to replace the whole thing?
Best place to get one new.. is the quality any good?
I assume you just fix the cable so it's tight with the flap spring tensioned, the bellows then expands as the engine warms up, releases the tension in the cable and the spring pushes the flaps open/closed?
    Thx. 20220918_162306.jpg

Heritage sell new cables..they do the job.

  3. A length of bike gear or brake cable will do the job.

  4. Cables readily available, thermostat  good luck. Like rocking horse. Yours looks ok, quick tip don’t put too much tension on the cable so long as the flaps are more or less shut when cold that’s good enough. If you have the cable like a bow string it puts unnecessary stress on the nla thermostat.

Undo the nut holding the cable to remove. Replace cable (heritage parts for about £6) and then attach back to the 'stat. Be careful undoing and tightening again though.

Edd China used the beetle equivalent on the 914 they did on Wheeler Dealers.
