Type 4 Guru Salisbury area

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by graeme, Mar 28, 2022.

  1. Hi everyone really struggling with getting my type 4 engine running sweet and was wanting to know if anybody in the group knew someone within the Salisbury area. Any recommendations would be grateful. I have replaced the carburettors had them set up change the jets changed leads plugs distributor took the engine out and have replaced the barrels the Pistons had the heads/ valves lapped and set the valve clearances but just can’t seem to get it running nice.

    Okay, fair point.
In the spirit of peace love and harmony as the person in question is a member of the forum, and I don’t want your thread to turn into a slanging match, would you object if I ‘redacted’ the name?

  6. Happy to delete definitely don’t want to get into any slagging match as I’m not that style of person.

    Cool.
I would, and can, give you the number of the chap I use for my van, down in Ringwood, but he is not keen on type 4 engines so it would be better to exhaust all other local possibilities first I think!

Hmmm. So to avoid any bad reviews - easy, join the forum and they'll be redacted!

When you say "I have replaced", do you mean you did the work yourself?

  11. Yes did this myself

Ok though - have you gone through the simple checks again now the engine is potentially totally different.

    Timing OK?

Leads back on distributor in the right order ?

Why were the carburettor jets changed ? what was wrong before ?

Okay, fair enough, looks like I made a bad call there, but all I did was ask the OP if he objected to me editing my post and removing a forum members tag. He chose to delete his post, rather than saying ‘no, leave it, I want everyone to know’. Trying to strike a peaceful balance obviously hasn’t worked. I apologise.

  18. How did you "set them up"? Did you replace the original PDSITs with...something else?

  19. WHY??? If someone did a bodge job on my van id be telling too . So that at least everyone can make their own decisions so the same doesn’t happen to them …. So why does it mean anyone who is a member here gets automatically protected from getting the truth told about any bad work done????? ID DEFINITELY WANT TO KNOW SO I DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE

  20. Replaced the solex carbs as they never ran correctly so bought a pair of 44mm Brosal carbs but again still not right got them balanced but kept over fuelling running rich no matter what I do just not right.
