Has anyone been on any of the Type 2 Detectives Boot Camps - one day VW air cooled courses? They cost £190 to attend and Cambridge is a long way from Manchester - are they worth it? Thanks John
cat out of the bag here John tight this lot , i have just read the article in camper and bus it looks ok and they supply loads of tea apparently . For me anywhere that helps you get to know your vehicle is worth a shot .
BJM send me the money and I'll do the course and send you a comlete review, I'm near Cambridge and am happy to help If it's ok you can book up for the next one
it's horses for courses, martin dorey went on the last one and did an excellent write up on it, it's more regimented and organised, but as we know tekenders is free and laid back, two different beasts in my opinion, providing you ain't shy and want to learn and aren't affraid to ask i know which one i'll continue to support.
I was on the one last Saturday and would recommend it all, as long as you have the right expectation. This is a structured course, where you learn by listening and watching rather than hands on fixing. I learnt a lot about the electrics, the engine and its tuning, how to diagnose faults on fuel and electrics, plus got good advice on what spares to carry etc., I think its a good investment if you need to know the basics and it starts assuming no knowledge, so not for experts either. But this is not a 'take your van and its faults - then fix them' course. Hope this helps. Mark
I d personally would go on the t2d course and I am not knocking TE if that's what floats your boat but I like to keep van fixing and camping as separate as possible I know a lot can be done in a field but taking a running vehicle and breaking it Miles from home doesn't seem the best idea personally But like you said it's free
