A rag and whatever helps soften it. Brake cleaner might, thinners would. Use your finger to pick out those bits of sealant on the inside first.
The tinware piece may go in with the heat exchangers fitted - there is some knack to it , where you twist it around poking it in , then maybe bend it a little. The thermostat side should be two pieces, one curved, one flat so you can get at the thermostat with only taking off the rear piece.
