    Purists look away now

I’ve always thought that the mirrors on the carp bus were a bit Tom and liked the look of those truck mirrors, the 2 things that put me off was that I thought they stuck out a bit too far and I didn’t like the way they attached to the belt line so here’s what I did

Firstly I unbolted the mirror from stem and gave it a good clean IMG_1369.jpeg then pulled the arm out of the bracket end ( this is no longer needed, I placed the mirror on top of the truck mirror and marked the truck mirror arm and cut it so the arms arethe same length IMG_1371.jpeg
    IMG_1372.jpeg
    IMG_1373.jpeg
Next flatten the arm in a vice( use a piece of rag or cardboard so as not to scratch the chrome) IMG_1374.jpeg
Drill a 10mm hole in the flattened end and put the mirror on the arm IMG_1377.jpeg
Now take a 30mm stainless hexi bolt and attach the arm to the stem
    IMG_1378.jpeg
    tighten the arm
, now take the top arm and disconnect the bracket, as before mark the arm cut and squash the end and drill a 10mm hole, reattach the arm to the bracket
    IMG_1381.jpeg
now put the top arm back into the mirror and place and mark the top bracket on the door, if you have opening quarter light windows make sure they don’t fail the mirrors and can open fully,
Drill a pilot hole then drill a 9.5 hole and it might be a good idea to dab a bit of primer around the hole
    IMG_1388.jpeg
now put in the 2 plastic plugs in the holes and the gasket, put the arm into the gasket and secure with the screws that are supplied ,
Make sure door opens and close tighten everything up adjust mirrors job done

Very good Baz, good how to mate

    I suppose they're just ornaments like all taxi driver's mirrors? ;) :p

They look ace Baz! I've seen a few bays/splits with them fitted; I'm tempted for the new project.

I've got some to fit on mine and have been putting it off as I wasn't sure about fitting. Like the use of the original mounting . Will probably do similar, thanks for the idea.

I done similar when I fitted mine. They do make rear views much better / bigger.

Looks good to me, now paint those lovely arms with silver hammerite before they rust before your eyes. The mirrors will stay good but the arms are ‘sensitive’:)

Don’t they spoil the aerodynamics??? :p

  15. I'm not sure someone would pick out any rust on your bus, with all that leopard-print :D

Yes, but with a back wind, they act as sails :D

But what do they do for the front view? Sitting in the drivers seat (RHD) could you see whoever was taking the pic?

Not noticed any real loss of front view tbh. Certainly not as bad as the massive pillar in my modern (ish) car.

I certainly agree about modern cars, visibility seems to be relying on a plethora of cameras. I just thought that if I couldn't see the driver head he probably couldn't see me. I know the driver was probably taking the pic and wasn't in the drivers seat, but you see what I mean.
