  1. Hi again,
forgot to mentioned that i'm also having trouble when changing down from 3rd gear to 2nd , very hard to get.
Changing, going up from 1st to 2nd to 3rd to 4th is pretty good as it goes, just gets a little worrying coming down from 3rd to 2nd. anyone got any ideas or tips,
    cheers

Put in gear, wobble stick from side to side. Does it rotate as you move it from one side to the other?
If yes try this - try to stop it rotating as you move from 3rd to second.

  3. What do you mean by trouble? Can't find the gear, sticking, engine struggling, gear what gear? Etc etc

  4. Cheers Z,
yes it does seem to rotate , i'll try that then, It;s probably partly that i need to get use to it, it could be that i'm panicking a little as there is usually something behind me by then as we approach a roundabout or t-junction and i know that if i dont get the gear change i'll have to stop and put it in first. ::)
    thanks again

  5. hi Madfrankie,
yes, its just changing down from 3rd gear to 2nd, just cant seem to get it selected.

  6. Try going into first gear, then back into second instead of third to second, you have to be going a bit slower, but it works for me.

  9. ...or you could try adjusting the stop plate at the base of the gear shift just slightly.

I had a similar problem with EMPI quick shifter fitted.
    Replaced gearbox coupler. Still bad.
Took to SGS Aircooled. They found a bit fallen off in the shifter base. Replaced it with welded part. Better.
I looked closer and found the shifter plate that guides the stick had worn on the 3rd to 4th side so when adjusted got either 1st and 2nd with difficult 3rd to 4th or vice versa.
Bolted on a steel strip to make the gap narrower .

Almost perfect - there is a panic 3rd to 2nd move where it jumps over the bit stopping you going to reverse and you get reverse instead.

So I would add look for wear on the shifter plate . Thats about 10 pounds to replace unless its an EMPI when its the whole shifter.
