Another collapse but this time with a slight sting in its tail... The energy company was part owned by Warrington borough council which spent £18m on a 50% stake in the company in 2019, the council then provided it with a further £20m of funding. I don’t agree with councils investing in companies like this. It’s not what they are for... a bit like when they lost money when the banks went tits up. What a waste of tax payers money.
I’m not sure how this ended up in drive on beach’s. Could a mod please move it to general. bernjb56
Funny you say that... Together Energy and its subsidiary Bristol Energy have announced the closure of the company with 176,000 households affected by the collapse.
Including mine. I managed to switch to them in September just as this was all kicking off. I've actually had four months of energy at a lower price than my previous provider, but I'm at the mercy of the Supplier of Last Resort now. It's a busted system. They fold overnight, then can set up again when/if the mess ever recovers and do it all again.
Agreed, but the entire energy sector is based on exactly that.........unless you want to pay more for electric generated by burning sustainably farmed organic toffu.
Perhaps in future there will be an Energy Rating for suppliers. Which basically informs you of the risk of taking a punt on energy prices. E.g. Something that describes the ratio of their available cash to the CEO's remuneration package value..
Bristol City Council spunked £46M on Bristol Energy before realising it wasn’t going to end well. They’re now cutting pretty much every service to the bone, whilst loudly blaming the tories.
So basically the same as the Iceland bank scandals from 10ys ago? Anyone want too buy a monorail . Because Coventry have ..
Energy privatisation was a flagship Tory initiative - perhaps Bristol City Council were bringing back to the public what they originally owned anyway? You are right though, it was a huge mistake.
