Today is Weed Appreciation Day

What’s wrong with weeds? Natural environments, gardens, parks and public places are home to huge varieties of plants and flowers, and weeds are an important part of that ecosystem. On Weed Appreciation Day, consider how much fun you had with dandelions as a child before you pull them up; and consider how many of these weeds are in fact edible (make sure to check it’s safe!), and unsurprisingly very easy to grow! A weed is only a plant growing in the wrong place, that's what my Grandad always said & I've got to agree with him

Now we wait for those who appreciate a different type of weed

Our guinea pigs love dandelion leaves.

 

It's to early for the ones that really appreciate the weed.

I wish I had more to appreciate , 10 days left and already running low

 

Dandelion wine I hear is good.

I only have two real hates when comes to weeds and they are bindweed and ground elder.

 

I found some in the garage the other day.

 

The fresh young leaves are the ones you want to eat
The older mature leaves are quite bitter in taste

 

My take on gardening
if you pull it out of the ground if it comes up easy its a plant and you should put it back before you are seen
if you pull it and it wont budge its a weed

 

No dogs or poo , when my eldest girl was about 7 and we were trying to get her to eat her greens i came up with the little gem of "you can eat anything that grows and is green " to which she replied ok "eat some dandelions from the garden " so as to prove my point i grabbed some of the weed and started to munch , well i think my face told her it wasnt great and i had to let her of the eating of greens . I guess they were past there best poptop2

my neighbours appreeciate their weed and throw most of the butts over my fence, which I dont appreciate

I was invited to a Seder when I was in uni, we were all poured a little glass of sweet raisin wine, that you were supossed to eek out for the meal. Mine had gone in 2 sips. An old man topped up the glass and whispered, don't worry we can always spot a catholic.
