Bit more of a serious one today. Human Rights Day promotes awareness of human rights issues around the world, and highlights the efforts of the United Nations to improve global human rights conditions.
Paley beat me to it . You could shut down half the UN's activities and noone would notice. A self-perpetuating bureaucracy. Still, they pay themselves well.
Maybe if our government stopped spending our money on themselves and encouraging the rich to get richer that would also be a good start to improving equality. We shouldn't be paying to increase profit for those providing essentials, travel, heat shelter etc and don't start me on British gas.... Right I'm out of this thread the hook is hurting my mouth
Talking of the UN and Human Rights - some countries have just been appointed as Vice Presidents of the UN Human Rights Council - they include: Mauritania - where it is estimated up to 800,000 lives as slaves - and freedom of religion is illegal. Maldives - freedom of religion is illegal - only sunni muslims are allowed to be citizens, no other religions are allowed and if you are in possession of a religious text other than one concerned with sunni islam you can be deported. Great to see the UN taking human rights so seriously.
