My Dad used to set and mark the exam papers for the RAE - way back in 1960's, I think it was! He was also one of the early ham radio enthusiasts and I remember some of his radio gear from the late fifties - huge stuff it was!
i found a bundle of early amateur radio magazines under floorboards in my little terraced hiuse some years ago and donated them to the local amateur radio peeps... Mags were about 1905-14 I recall Waunfawr lot i think... http://g4usb.net/IMD/station-histories/waunfawr-gb4md/ I also remember using some sort of kit to listen to the radio using a radiator for some reason.
