  6. Fred RESPECT! Dickie respect for lip herbage, but Its Not Easy Being Green. Great sentiment for the middle classes but woth diddley squat if you live in a terrace. Ooh how nice to have a couple of acres small hollding with a water wheel and wind turbine. Plant some trees to offset your carbon footprint, great until those trees die and release their carbon for a future generation to deal with. For an engineer his sums are worked out through short sighted rose tinted glasses. Don't eat takeaways because of the packaging, give me a break! Chip fat Landy, ok if there's at least 10x the chip shops. Oh, don't eat take aways, forgot that. Not enough room on this little island.
Is it 2.5 or 3.5 Earths we need if we are all living a western lifestyle. Enjoy it while it lasts. :) Discuss

  8. yes I remember his carbon footprint thing he did..that was bit ridiculous...but gotta admire his enthusiasm for tinkering..I like the chap for that...to be honest it was few years ago when the " carbon footprint was the buzz word" ....everybody was on it...when Dibnah was the a man a carbon footprint was what he left on the carpet when he went in the house for a wee......

  18. It was about 5 years ago and it was a thread on living of the land and being self sufficient

A lot of people took offence when i noted that you would need 2 acres of prime arable land with a local water source close by
And 4 acres of broadleaf woodland to coppice for firewood

I then mentioned the amount of acres the whole of the uk covers
All of it even the unsuitable for anything land and you cant grow your own in the middle of the motorway
I then quoted the figures i could find at the time for the population of the uk

Im all for the self sufficient dream and try to practice the ideoligy as often as modern life allows
However its not possible on this small island whilst were over populated and as ive often said before
We live in a very fragile balance due to modern ways and every generation we lose the old skills required to live of the land
