Thats what i do with the beer that i bottle I buy cheep asda spring water to make the beer and then reuse the bottles
How would I work out how much of it to use compared to sugar, do you use the sugar content as a guide?
Ive been out and bought some more kit so i can do an elderflower champers run then later in the year ill do a bramble wine run All to be put away for the winter This is going to be one boozy christmas
You can use any form of sugar to bottle condition. Tate and lyles golden syrup contains 76% fermentable sugars so basically up your priming amounts by 1/4. There is a chart floating around the web which tells you how much to add based on levels of sugar and quantity of liquid. From another forum:BeerSmith says that golden syrup has a potential extract of 1.036, where sugar is 1.046 - so you may need to add additional syrup (compared to sugar) to get the same volume of CO2 when bottle priming. However, you're still only going to be using about 1-200g in a 20L batch, so I very much doubt you'd notice any flavour from such a small addition (same as most people say the tiny bit of priming sugar you use is not noticeable either).
What recipe are you using matty as they vary a lot when looking around the net I want to do about 20 litres worth and have some reasonable alcoholic strength to it
This was the easiest one i found, i have done it with a fermenting bucket and airlock instead of just covering it. I also put a few more heads in and a pack of champagne yeast, some are the comments are worth a read http://www.channel4.com/4food/recipes/chefs/hugh-fearnley-whittingstall/elderflower-champagne-recipe
i did that one xmas... with 8x5 litre bottles the cashier asked what i was going to do with all the water she looked dumbstruck when i said turn it into wine ...
ive done a wherry, a nice dark beer,... try to let it mature here are some reviews of it .. http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=22295

Im embarrassed now, I got a replacement for the leaky one from Wilko's. Bit of a cheat really , I bought one last week took the old one back today and swapped it so now I have two brand new. I can have a constant supply of ale, best I get some elasticated waist trousers.
Im going to try and be a good boy and see if father christmas will bring me one of these http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Beer-Keg-23-Ltrs-Cornelius-Style.html#.Ud8HgqwbhTm
As promised here are the instructions we have been following for our 100 Ltr mini brewery. Brewing Instructions.pdf
We try to be as green as possible so a lot of the water we use in the cold break goes back into the HLT for cleaning the tanks afterwards, luckily we are not on a meter. As for the electric it is the equivalent of boiling 2 kettles. The HLT is only on until it reaches temperature but the copper is on for 90 minutes so I will have to see how much our bill goes up but at least we get a free steam treatment and our complexions are radiant the day after.
How much does this home brew stuff work out per pint? I remember doing this 30 years ago when I was a lad it was all pretty rank ... has it improved since then and now actually produces a drinkable beer?
I have recently got back into it after giving up 15years ago as it was bad the new kits are much better and with a good kit you can easily produce a real ale on a par with a pub one
