I'm sure this tinware can't be right but all the holes line up and it's almost right, but the tin doesn't follow the high lip around the corner. the engine is a type 4 2.0l. appreciate any help!
There will be a foam seal that fits in the gap. It appears your is missing. It is an important component as it helps keep the hot and cold sides of the engine separate. This is the sort of thing but other companies supply them too! http://www.customandcommercial.com/volkswagen-baywindow/engine_parts_1600cc/twin_port_engine_tinware/german_quality_engine_foam_seal_72-79_6360/
It looks like the foam seal is there to me. Seems the tinwear doesn't match the shape of the bus! Does early / late make a difference?
Thanks for the replies, as baysearcher says the tin isn't following the body are there different tinware for the type 4?
Thanks for the replies I'll have to send it back to get a refund. Anyone know where I can get the right part?
Ive just done this job today, I've painted all the tinware but one bit was rotten and so I replaced it. I got this from ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221093147243?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 They are often listed, its a case of keeping an eye open. I paid £16.00 plus postage but dealers have advertised it for as much as £40.00 The bit you've got isnt the right one by the look of it. but its an easy fit once you get the correct bit
