Spent a few days over New Year in Tintagel. All but New Year's Day was great - it was raining everywhere in the UK on New Year's Day, so whynot spend it in a little town by the sea?

We stopped at King Arthur's Arms on the main street. It has a huge carpark and facilities. Cost £10 for 24 hours to stop, tahtis broken down into £5 for daytime parking (in case you wanted to go off for a drive in the daytime) and £5 5pm-11am.
Toilets are 50p and showers started at £2 for 4 minutes. They also have water, elsan dump and drive over grate for waste water. In the summer they have a gras section put aside for campers.
There are a couple of other car parks that allow stopovers and a mile away in Bossiney Cove there is a field that allows parking and overnights for £5 - but is closed when the weather is really wet.

The pub does okay grub and plenty of drinks to choose from. The place was quite busy and I can bet the whole town is rammed in the summer. Five minute walk away from the castle (How much?!?!?!?), but also some great coastal walks.

Not a bad view from a pub car park.

Coastal walk views are even better

Opposite the pub is the 16th C Olde Post Office

  5. Not this time ,
    Very quiet,
But I have been there when they are filming ,
They did seem to film just little bit’s at a time to fit in with the normal day to day running of the village .

Sounds more like Arthur Daily than King Arthur

Talk about bringing in trade to the village . We were there this summer . when we were buying fish and crab at the fish shop just down at the bottom from where Dr Martins house is . Whilst queueing up to be served the women behind the counter had a strong Derbyshire accent and was from Belper ..then 5 people rolled up from Alfreton Derbyshire all with Reet broad accents .
Next thing we were all chatting away and i started forgetting that we were actually in Cornwall , the women were saying all reet duck ...hast got any cod in duck ...women behind the counter says ...of course we have duck where do you think we are .

    Not at £18 !!!!

Anyway it was closed on the Tuesday when we walked down the hill to the cove where the castle is due to the crazy high winds. Phew, as Heather was tempted to go in, saved a few quid :D

    Probably true enough..

I find it too far to drive, and unpredictable weather..
A quick cheap flight, to nice places is preferable..

Cornwall had the best of the UK weather, so we thought 'go for it' - it pee'd it down everywhere on NYD so we just stayed in the van and the pub
