Decided to call Carole Nash as others have spoken positively about them. All of the panels of insurers that they have on their books declined to quote! The reason (as given) - because I don't own a car, they won't quote. The fact that Mrs. M has a car with me as named driver etc. isn't relevant. Anyone had a good experience with a renewal recently?
I had a similar problem but I’ve forgotten who with. My insured vehicles are commercial van, classic car, camper and scooter but no ‘normal’ car.
Try A plan. I've got both my classics insured with them and don't own a modern car which they didn't seem to have a problem with. edit: They're now called "Howdens".
@Chrisd recommended Classic Line. They are very helpful when called, during the quoting stage they went through details such as modifications etc and in all, gave a competitive price. I went with them!
I had this problem with Nash last year. The underwriter that would insure me as van only vehicle left the classic market and their others wouldn't do it. They'd insured me like that for about 8 years previously. I did get insured eventually but the price doubled.
I'm with A-Plan, aka Howdens. A few years ago my then insurer declined to renew cover on my two vehicles, a 1958 Austin A40 and a 1972 VW Westy, saying that I must own a modern daily driver. Howdens cheerfully accepted them on a single, fully comp policy with restricted mileage of 5,000 miles each, more than adequate for this 77-year-old driver.
Im sure I was with A Plan ( are they now called Howdwns? I hadn't noticed.... probably should check! ) The email renewal invitation that dropped into my inbox a couple of days ago just says Your Cherished Vehicle Insurance. I can't remember if they've ever asked me about my daily drive. They haven't put my policy cost up for a couple of years, for the camper and the Morris traveller, so I'll probably renew with them. They always seem very personable, so worth a try- especially if @JamesLey is with them without having a modern vehicle like yourself @Marty SmartyCat
Howdens came in quite competitive. I then asked about multi vehicle policy. Last year, van was around £270 and the daily run about was £600. Multi vehicle with Howdens - £600!!!!
Howdens did me a good deal when I renewed my wedding insurance. It included public liability. For under £300.
I did mine through just Kampers and to include another named driver and 5000 miles, breakdown cover inc 90 days in Europe fully comp was 266 - insurer was haggerty A lot depends on things like Is it garaged Your postcode Age Value of van Clean license etc etc Always done my vans through just kampers and always been competitive
Blimey, my quote for the camper and Morris was £285.95, and I think the old daily Volvo is usually around £250 with whatever company comes in cheapest when it's due. £600 combined sounds a bargain for you in comparison with last year?
