There has been a slight delay due to circumstances, I'll have a lie in tomorrow then I need to tidy up - a lot! Luckily putting bits onto the bus also tidies them up so bound to be some of that.
Small update. The first layer sound proofing is done apart from one half of the front panel as I got fed up washing off the waxoyl so it would stick, I'll finish it off tomorrow. No real idea what I'm doing, but last time I was left thinking I should have used more, so this time I did. I just stuck it where I thought would be good until I ran out. I'm toying with maybe putting something under the cargo floor and possibly the cab floor too. The early got a lot queiter when I had the cargo floor area covered in whatever I was moving - say a trip to the dump. Most of the time it's not covered though. Moving on and got the first layer of floor (6mm) down too. Second layer and Marmoleum tomorrow. Then last thing I laid the marmoleum out to rest. It's stiff stuff and it was a job to get it unrolled at all. Earlier I put the trim round the poptop base and balanced that on top on some wood on the roof, ready to lower into position while I think about sealant or no sealant. It's going to be tricky guessing where to put it that would have an effect as once it's fitted you can't see it. I wonder what @Diddymen did.
I'll have you know I've been having a picnic in my van today ........somewhere other than on the drive ......and while we were out we flew a kite bet you weren't expecting that !!
I believe you! I'm on PAYG internet so don't want to open your picture heavy thread. So,....did you seal the GRP/wood frame to the tin roof or not?
As I'm sort of stuck in the van, it being the only clean space in my new world, I popped the roof on. I can't get screws until Monday without paying silly money, Devon used about 500 of them. ...and made a start on the second layer of 10mm closed cell sound proofing/insulation. Never been a big fan of insulating, I must be getting old!
lol, sorry thought you meant you wondered what I did today tuesday_wildchild I don't think I sealed the wood frame to the metal work ....but I cant quite remember TBH. I did seal the GRP to the wood though using sikaflex .....come to think of it, I didn't seal the wood to the metal as I'm pretty sure I removed it again when I realised I hadn't smeared seam sealer around the corners of the cut out. My thoughts were that water was unlikely to work its way upwards to the wood from the tin top .........but it could leak down from above, hence sealing the GRP to the wood if that makes sense. I did make a new wood frame which I gave several coats of wood preserver, think I fitted the wood frame first as it was tight. Didn't want to bond it to the GRP first incase I'd got it in the wrong position
I have also decided not to seal it. The wood is ok on mine and the upstand is fully welded and sealed at the corners. I'll squirt some seam sealer up the holes under the wood, I don't think these screws are needed and they bent both the tin roof and GRP.
I only put half the amount of screws back in along the side, and only ones for holding the ally strip down through the top. what is the condition of the canvas/bellows like on yours?
mine was awful, thought about buying new ....but when I saw the cost of the, realised mine wasn't damaged I thought I'd clean it up I used a bath full of bleach
Mine is still attached to the top bit complete with tied up spring supports and whatever else there is - a few screws in the support, fit the ali strips and I'm done. Nearly anyway but have to replace the skylight first and the top is very, very dirty from it being in the workshop for so long.
I've just got a replacement top, the rest is ok as far as I remember. I doubt I'll ever even open it.
Today's efforts. Tried to fit side panels but the clips JK sold me are for the thin original cards and won't go onto their thicker MDF efforts. So, another layer of floor (3.2mm)... And the Marmoleum (Lino). I'd have picked something different this time but I was given this, so... And got some mats fitted...
Great work like the floor and I'm hoping its easier than it looks to lay one, what mats did you use around the seats and walk through?
It's time consuming like everything but this it the 3rd I've done recently so I'm in the swing of it. Mats are all standard bay ones from Heritage or JK (can't remember). It's become much less tinny in here over the last few days. Tomorrow I may have a bash at the ceiling.
