This is June our project

  1. I have bought this VW T2 its had a new roof fitted new wheel arches battery trays both sides inner and outer sills rear corners and more, I will upload photos but could not as message said image too large.

Any way it seems that all I have to do is prep and paint it and a little more, my concern is the doors don't fit correctly and out to the frame i assume that when the welding was done the roof to front pillars would have been jigged ?

Does any one have any info on how to check if the hinges are in the correct place in relation to the pillars.

Look down the length of the gutter - it should be level, but I've see them dip forward of the sliding door after bad repairs. It's usually possible to adjust the doors to get a reasonable fit though.
Host your pics on photobucket. There's a sticky thread on here showing how to post pics.

  3. Hi Zed thanks for that I will check that out and post the photos as soon as I can.

Lets Try this if these show the photos were taken when myself and my son Stewart collected the Bus having seen it on ebay. one of the photos show us putting the doors on but only to transport them, so they were not lose in the back. We couldn't line them up but didn't try to hard as we knew they would be coming off again once home, baybug we got the name june due to the "m" plate which dates the van as born on the 18th June 1979 and we got her on the 16th june.

Since these photos have been taken I have stripping the bus back to metal and also removed the front sub frame I will up load a god shot of the doors they are a fair bit out and that's my worry. I will be contacting the p/o and also the company that did the repair work and ask if the doors have be fitted to the bus since they carried out the repairs.

These are photos of how the door when attached to the hinge mounts looks the gap is very large and while I can reduce it some not by that amount, I did ring and speak to the company that did all the welding work on this bus and he explained as far as he could remember the the doors were not very good so he used a set of " known good doors" and lined it up with them and all fitted.
I have looked at the doors and they are very bad at the bottom and could be out of shape.

  9. Do you have pictures of the hinges?

  10. Hi paradox

I don't have pictures but I think the doors I have are for the prototype bay with small hinge and 8mm thread.

got any better pictures? its pretty difficult to fit the roof wrong and the issue you look to have seems like the doors not closed enough

Open it a bit, 2 hands uner as it tossing the caber and lift with all your might.
The front panel gap's lost it's shape... It needs bending into the correct shape and the filler doing again or you're going to be short of adjustment.

I take it you have tightened the bolts very tight? A traditional L shaped allen key is not up to it, you need one for your socket set.

and say grrrrrr with all your might at the same time, it makes all the difference ;) and tighten up the bolts, all 4 it makes a big difference on how the door hangs

  15. I will bare all these in mind, when I get some new doors on that subject can anyone shed light on just what is the difference between early and late bay doors from what I've seen the late bay have hex head bolts and ten mill thread and I think have a larger hinge. The early bays have a small hinge and counter sink screws so if these are used on a late bay the hole in the hinge mounting will be that much bigger and will make it all the harder to set doors up.

Up date on work to June so far been cleaning up the sub frame [IMG] and have removed all the sub axles and will replace joints or rubber covers and paint it once some small repairs have been done.

  16. Ow right are one is named June as we seen it on are wedding day in June then brought it the next day for a wedding present. So it's June the late bay

The doors aren't interchangable without swapping the hinges and adpating the check-strap fittings. Much easier to hold out for doors that will fit straight on.

the bottom of the doors are straighter too, to match the straighter step and the inner is shaped differently due to the shape of the step, the hinge bolts are all the same m8 threads just different heads, there are 2 types of countersunk hinge and one late hex bolt type plus check strap etc as above.

    buy the correct doors ;)

as to door fit, I have just removed a rotten perfect fitting door and fitted a rust free door on a 69 van, both door dated the same year, the new rust free door was so far away from fitting I considered binning it and repairing the rotten one, just because they are genuine and rust free doesn't mean they will fit straight on and be prefect , there is quite a lot involved in getting a door 'just so'
