Rear nearside wheel is squeeking like a mouse as I pull away in forward and reverse. What are common causes for a squeek?
There is a large steel spring-like coil covering the end of the brake cable where it passes though the backplate and down to the actuation lever. If the brake cable is slack, it causes this section to bow slighly and rub against the back of the hub. Tightening the brake cable fixed the problem.
And so usually does adjusting your brakes which you will find will tighten up the handbrake back to it's normal position. You should ALWAYS adjust the brakes before altering the handbrake cables, which in all honesty should never need adjusting. If you adjust the cables up, you will not be able to adjust the shoes properly because they will hit the drum due to the lever putting pressure on the spacer bar. If you didn't so this, slacken the cables right off and start again. Just sayin'
