The Ravers Thread

  1. I have so many to pick but this would always be the first one I think of.

It is not a massive 'rave' tune but to me Orbital are one of the best electronic bands out there and CHIME is the song that captures everything they are about.

I grew up listening to indie and rock - but in the early 90s a wave of electro bands broke through into the mainstream and my influence became spread.

The likes of Prodigy, Leftfield, Chemical Brothers, FSOL and Orbital shaped my musical youth and underline the music I now make.

I have seen Orbital about 30+ times at festivals and in venues and in April have the pleasure of seeing them in the Royal Albert Hall. No matter how many times I see them they never fail to make me dance like a madman and feel alive at the end of their shows.

Hartoll brothers - I salute you!

  3. You know a top dance tune when it sounds just as good as it did with an E in your system when you listen to it today and still get shivers up and down your spine :)

Tunes like that still sound so fresh and almost like they could have been written yesterday.

  10. I became aware of the rave scene through going to hippy traveller festivals. The two scenes came together in the early ninties, but I do remember raves being set up at the likes of The Treworgey Tree Fayre in the late eighties.
This is a tune I remember being played a lot by sound systems like Bedlam ans Spiral Tribe!!!

    SL2 - On A Ragga Tip.

  11. We used to go to the big raves at Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone. I remember one night I had a mahoosive cold sore, and was sitting in a corner applying some salve to it...someone came and asked me what I was popping....erm "cold sore lotion" was my reply. So not cool.

Ahhhh happy days. Got to be Little Fluffy Clouds for me.

  14. cool thread, used to go to Ressurection in Edinburgh and was a regular at Hanger 13 in Ayr if you remember it.....strangely the place got quite a bad name in the end!!!! One night we went there parked on the seafront, popped our nourishment for the evening and then i decided to jump over the sea wall for a quick slash, thinking the wall was only 2ft high as it was on the road side..............wwwrrrooonnggg 15ft later i landed breaking my ankle but as i was already on one, and my mates didnt want to lose there night out, we decided to all carry on as normal and go raving, and so it was! Pain wasnt to bad until the next day and finally made it to casualty the next afternoon.....took some explaining!
Then to finish the story nicely, when i finally got the cast off weeks later, i decided to throw a house party........we all got hammered and of course i fell down the stairs and.........broke the ankle again. My middle name is munter.
