WOW. Ground to air missiles being deployed. Whatever next?? £282m budget for security is now looking like being double that. No wonder bumbling Boris is charging us to fart in the capital

  2. yeah i saw that ,...madness

  3. ground to air missiles
i hope there for our boyz to have not the terrorist

  4. Interesting concept - 60 tons of airliner hijacked and heading towards the olympic village.

Intercept with ground to air missile - outcome - 60 tons of blazing scrap metal heading towards somewhere close to the Olympic village.

Verdict - That'l show them terrorists - they wont want do that again in a hurry!

    IQ shocker!

  5. It's easy to get a pilot's license, join a flying club and hire a small plane. Imagine of few of them hitting one target at the same time. It's a possibility. Surface to air missiles is simply a precaution. But a very good one. Imagine not protecting the air space. That would be foolish.

  6. It's helicopters you need to watch out for - hijacking planes is so 2001.

a bit over the top for a few seagulls and pigens

As long as the Americans are not in charge or the police will be looking for new helicopter.

  8. I think that the Olympics are to obvious a target for the Taliban to bother with. They'll know that the security will be hardcore. There a lot more sneaky and after ol Bin Laden got his karma served by the Americaans i think we'll see something a damm sight more deadly than the Olympics being blown up. They'll be waiting for the moment when no one is looking.

Damm scary world we live in :(

In the old days we might have used our air force or even the fleet air arm to guard the airspace.

That's before we thought it a better idea to equip air craft carriers with no aircraft, or scrap our in flight re-fuelling ability.

Some in-effective ground to air political pandering exercise is far cheaper and who cares if it ticks the bare arse minimum box.

Fiver says we end up with American planes or drones in the skies instead.
