Hi All, Throttle cable just broke on first camping trip of the year. I'm just outside Fordingbridge/ Salisbury, anyone know anyone decent to the area who either stocks the part or who can fix it? Hoping breakdown man can but...(not having a spare doesn't help)
Unfortunately I removed spares from van for a job last weekend and it seems I never put them back in...
Update - recovery truck taking me to a garage who will fit cable tomorrow. Not the worst day to be sat on a verge awaiting recovery truck. Considering starting on the booze in the van
Bit late for that! Due to covid you have to sit in the vehicle whilst they are towing you back. Wondering if that would be a good time to get a bit boozy
I had a spate of broken accelerator cables and the recovery guys had a magic box of bits to repair cable...it was never quite tight, otherwise the fitting looked more robust than anything you could buy from the "usual suspects ".
Ah dude that sucks but glad you managed to get recovered! All my bits have arrived ready to go on the bus minus needle jets but no biggie for now. I'll let you know how I get on tuning. Have a good one, and give any thoughts of work a flick. Cheers Rog
One interesting factoid reported more with breaking clutch cables is that if the gearbox earth strap is bad, the engine earths itself through the entire clutch cable, and the cable can heat up and eventually breaks at the front where it joins the lever under the pedal..
Mine was due to bodge trying to make a twin choke webber work with a late auto box. Gone back to how VW intended.
