Watching it now, for probably the 30th time. Watched the second half last week after spotting it while channel-surfing, just saw it was on again now and started back at the beginning. What a waste of a Lamborghini Miura! it’s nearly enough to make you cry! Little did they know how much it would come to be worth. The Aston would be worth quite a few quid now too! Then there’s the E-types and the Mini Coopers. At least the fab Fiat Dino Coupe didn’t get chucked down a mountain side. And nice to see so many Cinquecentos. Fiat get credits at the end of the film which may explain it, but visit any Italian city or hill-top town and you’ll see them still dotted around. Which are your favourites from the film?
Its just a great film throughout, watched it many times myself. Best bit, hard to choose really. I dont like the remake they made, not even in the same league!
The Land Rover. I also like when they were working under the back end of one of the minis and they say that ‘he’s working on the diff’!
All time favourite film, even my ringtone is "the self preservation society". Some interesting stuff on the dvd. Like they had to buy all the minis but fiat let them have whatever they needed and the blow the doors off bit, they just rocked up, did it, filmed it and scarpered. No permission, no H&S. Brilliant.
According to IMDB the shot of the Aston being tipped over is actually a Lancia Flavia. Phew! - if true.
When they are at the cliff edge In the coach And Caine says move up this way slowly Why does Matey take his boots off? I never understood that
One of my favourite films. Had the video now got blue ray. I read a book many years ago about the making of the film and I think the Miura was a crash damaged car made to look good for the camera so not the end of the world. Someone in Newcastle had all the original minis restored. It’s true they nearly used Fiat 500’s because they could get as many as they needed for free. Luckily they stuck with minis even though they had to buy them.
