The first time it's ever broke!

  1. Went to go to dubs at the castle on Sunday, cleared out the bus and hoovered it etc, started it up and the oil light stays on. This is the first time in the 4 yrs I've owned it that's it's let me down.

Has the wire come off the sender?
If not, first thing to do is change to sender. A few quid and they do go wrong. :)

  3. Tbh zed I haven't looked, lazy mechanic lol
I need to change the oil and filter anyway as I havent got round to doing that before, lol, so I will test the wiring and the sender at the same time

That's not a real brake! It needs to physically stop you from driving. Sorry.

i have a fairly new vdo oil pressure and light sender and it puts the light on at idle and reads 1 bar below the real pressure :O

  6. How quick should the light go out after starting when hot T4 1800 My engine has been rebuilt, runs perfect the light never comes on when driving but does take a few seconds to go out?

Any ideas (also new oil and sender)

  11. ordered a pressure switch, oil filter and gasket set today, went out and bought some nice new oil too. im not gonna say what sort of oil so that can of worms can stay shut!
parts will be here tomoroow so i am going to strip it down later tonight

  12. those of you with hydraulic tappets will usually wait a second or two longer for the light to go out than those with solid lifters, especially if it hasn't been fired for a couple of days or more.

the light won't go out problem if not electrical, may be the plastic valve in the oil filter stuck. don't buy cheap oil filters.

  13. ok i win the pratt of the year award!!!
i had a look at it tonight and the oil light in the dash had the generator light in it, so in fact its not the oil light but the generator light on. i must have put them in the wrong way round :( one is blue and the other is blue with green on it but the green has faded to near invisible so fairly easy to confuse
the wires swapped back over and the oil light is fine the odd thing is when the right hand lever is fully down so the aux engine fan is on the gen light is on, move the lever up and the light goes off. run out of time tonight but it will do for now so i will change the oil as soon as the parts arrive tomorrow
