The First Annual UK Bus Jam - Mid-Suffolk Showgroun - 7-9 Sept 2012

Discussion in 'Shows Events You've Missed unless you went' started by Dub Vacation, Feb 18, 2012.

  1. 25 Years ago Brett Hawksbee created Bug Jam, as a response to the style and practice of the events of the time. Events which many saw as overpriced and unresponsive to the needs and interests of their visitors.

Now, for 2012, in a calendar packed with VW shows throughout the Summer, comes a new show, ‘The First Annual UK BUS JAM.

The day ticket price at Bug Jam back in 1987 was £4 per person… and the price of a day ticket to BUS JAM will be the same. Just £4 per person, per day.

Even better than that, BUS JAM does not and will never charge extra for your ‘unit’, or entertainment.

Or for any children under 14.

There is per person overnight charge of £5 for camping on site, but that’s it. No-one will pay more than £18 for Friday to Sunday.

Saturday arrivals staying over will be £13, and day visitors just £4 for each day of the show.

The show is aimed at all VW enthusiasts, especially those who remember the ‘good old days’.

The ‘First Annual UK Bus Jam’ takes place over the weekend of 7th-9th September 2012, at the Mid-Suffolk Showground, a venue with excellent access from much of the UK via the A12 or A14.

  2. Could be interesting.

  3. Looks good and an alternative to the busfest (vanfest) which you all say is over priced and too commercial. Its a fair old trek for us and the 38 year old girl from Plymouth but we may give it a go. 8)

  13. Everyone has their opinions about Shows in general, gate prices, how many there are, how they are run, how there are too few traders or whatever...

Bus Jam is an antidote to the all singing all dancing, scared of missing something show. For a start, it is 1/2 of the price of a casual overnight stop at the venue, so no-one is profiteering, ripping anyone off, or pretending that the huge cost of putting the show on justifies taking a hundred pounds or more from the average vehicle coming through the gate. Now if people enjoy that kind of major event so much that they feel it is value for money, that is their choice, and Bus Jam is really only aimed at those who hadn't planned to be anywhere else that weekend (7th-9th September)

At £4 for a daytime visit, it is also cheaper than parking your vehicle in a council car park for the day most places!

There is one idea behind Bus Jam, and that is that it is possible to have a decent weekend in a decent venue, without everyone needing to take out a mortgage for their ticket.

Stonham Barns has some great advantages as a venue, with the Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary, the Meerkat Castle, Crazy Golf, Driving Range, Fishing Lakes, Golf Course, shops and restaurant. Beyond that, I will endeavour to organise as much activity as there is enthusiasm for... get as many traders as I can... (trading is free, not much more I can do...) and make areas available for clubs, as well as 'Glamping', Autojumble, Cars For Sale etc. The Show & Shine will be for T1 thru T5, and other 'VW commercials' variants. I hope that Bus Jam evolves, as a show about VW Vans and Commercials, about camping, meeting other enthusiasts, and nothing else. (In an effort to ensure that it is viable for future years, from 2013 it will be moving date to 9th to 11th August, the final weekend of DubVacation.)

For this year though, it's Sept 7th-9th, it's a very low cost alternative to being anywhere else in your van... even a random touring site. And with the right mix of people around, you might have fun!
