The Engine Shop

  1. Hi all at the TLB,

Having a bit of a problem with TES and thought best to let you all know, so you can make your own minds up.

I posted on VZI originally as I don't get on here as much as I used too, there is a bit of discussion here: http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=793616

To cut it short though, here are a basics.

1, Bought an engine from them and it started playing up after about 3000 miles and 9 months, problem misdiagnosed as an air leak initially and then found to be 3 studs failed in the case 1 month outside of warranty.
2, Contacted TES and told to return it and they would sort if I covered the postage, fair enough thought and great service.
3, Engine returned to me repaired, apparently bench run, pressure tested etc etc.
4, Gets fitted, 13 miles later I lose lots of power, engine goes rattly and oil all over the road, 3 hour wait to be recovered and freezing cold....
5, Turns out they had not fitted the rocker cover correctly and it lost oil pressure and lots of oil, so lack of lubrication has worn something internally knackering the engine.
6, Contact TES and told to politely get lost.... not their problem anymore

So, to sum up, when they build their engines they use old cases and don't case saver them, which leads to a short engine life.

I have learnt this the hard and expensive way, I have spoken with The Citizens Advice Bureau and they have told me that he is liable due to the poor repair, but getting him to do anything is going to be hard and it is looking like I am going to have to go through the courts.

    Cheers Simon

Unfortunately that seems to be a problem with the main providers and their terms are worded so they are in the right.

Also they have their terms for a reason anyone could do anything to the engine and blame it on them (I'm not saying by any means that this is your fault) but they have to cover for the buggers out there who are to blame. I doesn't mean the innocent should suffer.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Am I missing something? On Jan 7th you were thanking Jim from TES for his help...

  4. Horts I dont think you can caveat out of the The Supply of Services and Goods Act 1982 ... goes back to a favorite subject of mine morals, ethics and professionalism. Simon I dont know the facts but if you think it merits it there's always the small claims court.

just read the thread on viz a interesting read i would be a bit careful
it seams there is 2 parts to this story and if is he taking it further best keep out of it

  6. ?? I'm confused also, just read the vzi thread and alls good in tha hood ??

  7. Understand your distress Simon, but I can't really see why you're dredging this up again. Without wanting to read through the VZi thread it all again, I recall Jim did state he repaired the case using case savers (most reconditioners will use machined, old cases, btw) and the cause of the prob was oil spilling from the rocker cover, which points more to the installer, not TES.

From the VZI thread, it appears you were happy in the end. Don't really understand why you needed to post this.

  8. Seems the initial post is 6 weeks old so who knows whats happened since

Fair enough but I thought we didn't slate companies on here any more.
For anyone interested though it seems the problem with TES was resolved by the OP.
