The effect of controlled Parking zones on property prices?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by hippyrichy, Jun 13, 2012.

  1. Yes, a dull subject, I know!

Croydon Council want to introduce parking restrictions (due to a "petition") down our road to restrict commuter parking.

We want to sell. Will this be good or bad for our property price?

    Cheers

  2. I don't think it will have any affect ...

It will just make parking your van more difficult ... for every 10 spaces they will give out 30 permits ... it's not about stopping commuter parking - its about making money from residents

I lived in Loughborough just across from the University - we had no issue for the first three years with parking and then people started selling their houses to landlords who then put students in them (no issue with that, if you don't like planes don't live near an airport and all that).

    Then they brought their cars.

Then they told their buddies and within a couple of years it became intolerable - on the day I moved out you couldn't get the removal lorry out - often the bin lorry never came etc because of inconsiderate parking.

The council have taken nearly 10 years to put parking zones in, and still haven't managed it to my knowledge - their ineptitude is laughable (the site was less than half a mile from their offices!)

It would have made a huge difference to quality of living for the residents - but I conclude that to house prices it would take a good few years to bring the estate back to families etc who could live with restricted parking.

In the interim, in that particular instance, I think it might put house prices down a bit - but there is other legislation that affects that so its card to be 100% sure.

It's about Croydon making money. When I first started parking my car in street bays my permit was £35. It's risen to £70 now for the first car in 6 years. 3 years ago they wanted £70 for the second car. This is why I have given up on my street a permit and went back to using the garage for the car instead of storage.

I doubt it will have any effect on the price of your property.

  6. and whilst on that same subject , in a more reflective moment , i"m amazed that i almost applied to have a permit to park my vehicle in the street where i was living, and pay the council to let me ?

  7. also most permits have a resident and pay and display area in the same street - so if the household permit spaces are full you have to pay in a p&d space and pay the cost .... its all a big con.

move south and get a house with a drive (that gets blocked daily)

  14. Yes we are staying in wonderful, sunny brilliant Croydon!

Check this out. . . £76 for first vehicle, £126 second vehicle and (wait for it) £305 for a third vehicle! On top of this they are generously offering a £4 per day residents visitor permit (which we will likely have to buy in advance from the council offices and can only be bought in books of five or ten).

Croydon Council can politely go and shove it.

  15. Additionally, the last time we fought this, the council demanded over 80% of people to be against not to proceed with this.

This time around, the questionnaire which asks us if we approve or not, needs an additional "letter" if we want to "officially protest".

    Jeez!

I have to say Croydon does have a lot going for it. It's a forever changing place with safe places to go after dark and some not so safe places :)

    Tuesday wildchild I'm a circle!

As a young person living at home our road ended at the station steps so we was always parked up with commuters. we got a permit scheme going and in the cost was a new traffic warden great our own warden. Did we see it yes but only when the moon was blue and some idiots seem think the space outside their house was now for them only to park in even those without cars thought the road outside thier house would be empty

The scheme lasted a year as we all felt the cost was to much.
