I'm going to be the thick one and and ask what's winded it and why the comment on going straight - presumably you steer if straight and it goes straight.

"goes straight, I even winded it"

Sorry for the thick question but never done boats, except the blowup paddle boat, but don't think that counts really.

Narrowboat are only vaguely boats at all. More like crude steel box with a nod to a pointy end at the front and same at back. At the back, under water leading to the prop and rudder the hull narrows, this is called the swim and the longer they are the better the boat steers. Long swims reduce living space so some boats have barely any swim. This one has a good balance between the two.
Winding is a 3 point turn. Traditionally done using cunning and the wind hence the name.
You possibly thought a camper would steer like a car before you got one...

  10. Welcome to the North West! Next time I go to Southport I'll have to pop over... ;) Lovely boat. They seem very popular in these parts. Near where I live is the Bridgewater Canal and loads of people live on boats on there. Seems like an idyllic lifestyle...

Painted. Not keen myself, it's a tad fussy inside and needs a bit of streamlining. :)

  13. love it mate. Rufford is ..frankly a bit on the posh side for the North West. They eat pies their pies cold without lids on round there and call em something else (some French name I think). Not right. Anyway after a year in the rain you might want to consider the eastern side of the Penines where its significantly drier. Im off to Lancs myself tonight.

  17. I wouldn't do any streamlining as you put it, your new home is lovely and full of charm, you are a lucky man.

So now you'll need lots of practise with all things boaty.
    I've got a great idea....
It'll take about 2 weeks to get down here at a slow meander. In 2 weeks time we're on the slip, I need to prepare & black the hull....soooo.....if you like you can get some hands on experience:p It's really good fun..honest
