Ido hope that your taking the cover off because whatever made thart thar hole is defo inside the cover --- yeee haaarrrr
Yep, engines out, no idea when it happened though been running around for 3 weeks now. Decided to drop engine to replace alternator and think main oil seal is leaking badly hadnt noticed this till I got under to undo some bolts!
alternator can be done with engine in ,someone had probably tried to put the spring clip back on/off with a phillips screwdriver in the wrong place... Flywheel oil seal is hit and miss be prepared to drop it again... ;D
It's not where someone has fitted an after market breather box is it? These have pipes going to rocker covers
Definitely not something that should be there, no evidence of any damage though and I've got a spare!
As mentioned it could still be in the engine. From there (if it is still in there) it'll have gone down the push rod tubes into the sump. Hopefully if it is in there it'll be stuck on your sump plug. Just be careful when you remove it that it there is anything on the plug it doesn't become free. It might be wise to remove the sump strainer out too.
It does look like its been pierced from the outside with quite some force as thats dented in quite a bit too and those marks above and to the side look suspicious.? Or maybe whoever was peed off with the gaskets leaking so....?
