That'll teach me ...

  1. I was happily heading along the M25 yesterday evening watching all these mollycoddled buses being trailered home from the Volksworld show thinking to myself "Do they ever actually drive them? At least my bus is my daily driver!" when as if to get back at me the bus suddenly lost power. Luckily I was coming off the motorway anyway and managed to cruise to a halt down the slipway and park on the grass by the Leatherhead roundabout - yep that was me if you past me!

After inspection of a rather unexpectedly hot engine (which usually runs nice and cool) I let the engine cool down completely yet found the dizzy was still very hot and discovered a very hot and burnt out rotor arm. A 2min swap for a spare one I keep in the bus and help getting the damned distributor cap clip on from a very nice Terry who stopped to see if I was alright, she was right as rain again and ran nice and cool on the journey home.

Anyone had similar experience with Petronix electronic ignition doing this? Never had an issue until now.

Anyway most importantly: Big thanks to the couple who helped me push the bus onto the grass and to Terry - a mate of Mark at Autotechniks - for stopping me losing my rag with the distributor clip. If our paths cross again I surely owe you a beer!

I believe that it's not an uncommon thing out here, especially in our summer, but I doubt it's the same problem you had as I don't think it would have been hot enough.

  3. Possibly but I've experienced more problems with overheating whilst driving here in the UK than I ever experienced driving the (same) bus in Oz. Ran like a dream for the 4 years I drove her in Oz and far more hassle free than she ever has been since in the UK. Definitely a message there … one day we'll be back :)

Time to come back, although Winter is approaching.

  5. Indeed but it's a long drive, should be there by Spring ;)
